What is Commodity CFD trading?
Commodities trading represents the trading of set quantities of homogeneous, or near-homogeneous assets. Popular commodities include Oil, Gold and other precious metals and soft commodities such as coffee, cocoa, soya etc. Price movements in commodities are usually seen as bellwethers for the overall health of the industry that produces/consumes them.
Commodity prices can be impacted by factors such as adverse weather, seasonal availability, natural disasters and other non-market factors typically found in other financial instruments. Typically, commodities trading in commodities can be either speculative or for hedging purposes. Traders can trade commodity markets to express their outlook on certain industries or to hedge their trading portfolio.

An example of leveaged CFD trading
Suppose you want to trade CFDs on crude oil. For this example, we will look at OILUSD. Lets suppose this instrument is trading at:
Lets say you decide to buy 10 contracts (10,000 units) of OILUSD because you think that Oil will rise in value. Your account leverage is 1:100. This means you need a minimum of 1% of the notional value of the position
So, you need to deposit:
1% x (10 x 1000 x 40.45)
=$4,045 AUD
Lets say in the few hours the price of OILUSD has moved to Bid: 41.41 and Ask: 41.45. At this point you have a winning trade and you could close the trade by selling at the price of 41.41
Your profit would be:
10,000 x (41.41- 40.45)
=$9,600
